Welcome back to the Summer term. This term we are going to be learning all about minibeasts. You've probably heard by now that this week we are learning about snails. We have used lots of non-fiction sources (books, internet, computer programmes, photos) to find out as much as we could about snails. We even came up with our own questions about snails to research :
Why do snails make slime?
What things do snails eat?
Why is their shell hard?
And now we know the answers - why not ask us about snails - you will be amazed at how much we know !
We have borrowed some real live giant African snails from Year 2 (Snail Class) but we are still waiting for them to wake up - never mind we have had a good look at their shells.
We have been on a minibeast hunt outside and used tally charts to log what we found. Unfortunately it was too cold for butterflies and ladybirds but we found plenty of worms, centipedes, woodlice and ants. We also spotted a few snails and one or two spiders (but we didn't tell Mrs Ball because she doesn't like them very much !)
We have also been sorting minibeasts - Holly was very good at working out how I had sorted the groups (groups with wings and no wings, groups that bite and don't bite) Well done Holly. We have also been busy counting in 5's and counting forwards and backwards from any number to 30.
Well that's all we have time for today. See you next week.
