Goldilocks

Hello Everyone,

This week we have been reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We have read the story and practised changing our voices for the 3 different bears.  Chloe is brilliant at doing different voices and so is Alexus !  We have made bears of different sizes from collage materials and we painted our own bears.  We have made cut and stick bears too which was very tricky.  We have also had fun retelling the story with puppets.

We have read lots of non fiction books about bears and other animals and we found out that bears really do love honey !  Lots of us chose non-fiction books from the library this week and we have had lots of fun looking in them to find information with Miss Cannell and our High School Student Miss McNab.

In maths we have been thinking about capacity and finding out which cup is FULL, HALF FULL and EMPTY.  Lennon even found a way to find out whether his cup had more in than Mrs Ball's - well done Lennon.

We have also been thinking about different sizes and putting things in order when we sort them.  These pictures show you how we sorted the bears into big, medium sized and small.  We used the colours to help us sort aswell.

We have been playing lots of phonics games this week to help us listen carefully for the sounds in words.  We are now so good at SOUND TALK that Mrs Young is not the champion - we are !  Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to one of the Phonics Roadshows this week - we hope you found them really useful?

We have been doing lots of balancing outside on blocks and stilts and we are getting much better at taking our time and being careful.

We had our mini harvest festival on Thursday and everyone did so well singing our harvest songs.  Thanks to all the parents and carers who came along to watch.

The phonics booklets and tricky word books have all come home now (in your child's book bag) so please do have a go at them over half term.  We will be starting Phase 2 phonics as soon as we come back to school after half term.  Thank you for your support in this.  This link will enable you to play some of the phonics games we do in class: Phonics Games

See you after the holiday.

Little Red Hen Week

Hello Everyone,

This week we have been busy reading the story of the Little Red Hen.  We found out that the little red hen's friends were a bit lazy and not at all kind because they wouldn't help her to make some bread.  In the end though the little red hen had the last laugh because she wouldn't let them eat any of her bread !  We talked about this and the children thought this was fair because they didn't help to make it !  We have made lots of hens using our fantastic new cutting skills and we have also painted some hens - we did really well at keeping in the lines.  Noah's hen painting was brilliant !

We have also been thinking about harvest time and getting ready for our mini harvest festival next week.  We have done some observational drawings of fruit - looking really carefully so that we copy all the details and we have done some brilliant fruit printing.  We even managed to get some repeating patterns going - so well done everyone.  Abigail enjoyed it so much she did lots of repeating patterns !

In maths we have been learning to recognise numbers really quickly and we've played a game where we have to look at a number and then hold up that many fingers.  We are getting really good at that.  We have also been weighing this week - we have been comparing different objects and saying which one we think is the heaviest and which one is the lightest.  We have then been checking by using the balance scales.

Why not have a go at some number games at home - Maths Games

We made bread on Thursday with Miss Cannell and that was great fun !  We had to follow the instructions so that we made it properly and it was hard work kneading the dough.  We watched how the mixture changed when we stirred in water.  Taloola thought it looked like playdough - and it did !  We then took it to the kitchen and left it to rise.  Wow - you should have seen how big our rolls got - it was amazing.

Oh my goodness !

Then our cook put them in the oven to cook.  We now know lots of information about where bread comes from and how it is made - why not ask us about it?

On Friday we tasted lots of different breads.  We tasted multigrain bread, crusty bread and brioche (which comes from France).  Yummy !

Outside we have been having fun playing in all the autumn leaves.  Indianna decided to build a huge bonfire !

And we've been doing a lot of hanging around - it's good for improving our pencil control (believe it or not !)

We have been making a really big effort to listen carefully in Grasshopper Class so that we can all be superstar learners. Mrs Ball, Miss Cannell and Mrs Young think we have tried really hard this week -so keep it up next week Grasshoppers !

See you next week.

Welcome to the Grasshopper Blog

Hello everyone,

This is the Grasshopper Class blog and every week you will be able to find out about all the exciting things we have been up to in Grasshopper Class.  Please do have a look every week - we usually update it on a Friday afternoon.

This week we have been reading the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk.  We have had great fun pretending to be the giant in PE and we even acted out the story to music.  We had to climb to the top of a very big beanstalk and then look shocked when we saw the giant.

Look at our giant steps !

We have made lots of puppets and masks for Jack and the Beanstalk and if you pop into our classroom you might see our Giant's castle up on the wall.  We had to draw around Noah for the Giant and then we worked together to collage him.  Come on in and have a look - it's great !

Daniel did a fantastic beanstalk this week and he cut up all the numbers to 10 and put them into the right order.  We were so impressed with him that we put his work on our 'Amazing Moments' wall.  Well done Daniel.

We have played outside a lot this week.  We have used the field and the sensory garden to play games and explore.

We have been doing lots of measuring this week to see who is the tallest and who is the shortest.  We have even had a competition to see who can build the tallest tower.  See if you can find some tall things in your house, or why not see who is the tallest and who is the shortest in your family?

Jona and Jordan (I think !) built this tower together

We have also talked about growing this week and we have planted our own beans - I don't think they are magic though?  We will have to wait and see.  We must remember to water them and we've put them in the sunlight.
