Elmer Week

Hello Everyone,

Wow another week gone already!  We have been really busy this week - we have learnt another 4 sounds and you are not going to believe this but we are already STARTING TO READ!  We can blend sounds together and read words on our own.  Why don't you try it out at home?  Write a simple 3 letter word for us to read (using the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n, m or d) and you'll be amazed at how clever we are (remember to use your robot arms to help you)!

We have been reading lots of Elmer stories this week by the author David McKee.  Elmer is an elephant who loves to play tricks on the other elephants.  The stories are really funny!  We have done lots of art work on Elmer too.  Mrs Young and Mrs Ball have been really impressed at how carefully we have been painting.

We've also learnt lots about real elephants using some non-fiction books.  Did you know that elephants flap  their ears to cool down?  They are also really good swimmers!

We have also read a story called The Rainbow Fish this week.  If you look outside our classroom you will see a fantastic display of our work on this story - a big thank you to Mrs Ball for putting it up - Dylan says "it looks smashing!"

In maths we have been learning how to use block graphs to find out what our favourite colours are.  We had great fun going around the class with clipboards asking all our friends.  Carrying on our colour theme we played with the big parachute in PE this week.  Do you know how tricky it is to keep a ball on the parachute?

Today (Friday) is Children in Need day and we have all dressed up to try and raise some more money for charity.  Oh I nearly forgot - we won Attendance Ted AGAIN!  Keep up the good work Grasshoppers and come to school every day!!!

Well that's all we have time for this week.  Hop along next week to find out more about Grasshopper Class!
