Snails

Hello everyone,

Welcome back after the long Easter break.  Just a short blog this week.  Hopefully you all had a fantastic time and didn't eat too much chocolate !  This half term we are looking at minibeasts and we've started off by looking at snails.

We have thought about everything we know about snails - we did know quite a lot of facts.  We have looked in non fiction books to find out about things we were not sure of.  Did you know that the soft part of a snail is called its foot?  Did you know that in cold weather snails like to bury themselves?  We also found out that snails prefer dead, brown, smelly leaves to eat rather than nice, green, fresh leaves - yuk !  In class we have 3 snails called Jill, Jack and Johnny and we love watching them move about their tank - although they are doing quite a lot of pooing - Mrs Young isn't looking forward to cleaning out the tank !  We also found out that snails and slugs are different creatures - snails do not turn into slugs when they lose their shell !

We have made lots of snails using playdough, floam and paper.  We also looked at The Snail by a very famous artist called Matisse.  We then tried to make our own 'Matisse' style pictures - look out for them on the display outside our classroom.

In maths we have been learning how to tally and make tally charts.  We then tried to make our own tally charts about minibeasts.  We are also practising how to count forwards and backwards to and from 30.

In phonics we have a whole new set of tricky words to learn so keep practising at home please.  We are now working on PHASE 4.

Phonics games

Alfie is going to take Diggory home this weekend because he has been listening so well on the carpet recently.  Well done Alfie - have fun.

Taloola was in the Good Work Book today because she has made such fabulous progress with her reading and writing.  Well done Taloola !

Thanks to everyone who has been practising their phonics and reading over the holidays - you can really tell the difference !

See you next week.

Easter

Hello Everyone,

Well we've finally made it to the last week of term and I think we are all ready for a good rest !  This week we have been thinking about healthy and unhealthy food.  We have read lots of non fiction books and we have made our own lists and charts.  We have talked about what we need to do to stay healthy and came up with a list of five things:

1. Drink lots of milk and water
2. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables
3. Exercise
4. Sleep well
5. Play and have fun

We've made our list into a poster to remind us about what we need to do.  We talked about what we liked to do for fun.  Mrs Ball and Miss Cannell both like to disco dance, Mrs Young likes to go shopping for shoes, Eimantas likes to climb trees and lots of us like to go out on bikes or to the park.

We have been busy making our Easter Cards with Mrs Ball this week.  We do hope you like them.

We have also made Easter Bunnies to bring home and Miss Cannell helped us to make chocolate nests with mini eggs and cornflakes - that was great fun !

The boys are wondering if Miss Cannell will notice if they sneak a quick mini egg?

In maths we have been counting sounds in our heads and we have been doing lots of sorting using our own ideas.  We sorted our fruit and vegetables by colour, size and whether they grew under the soil
or on top.  We even made repeating patterns with eggs !

On Thursday we listened to the Easter Story from the Bible.  It is quite tricky to understand and we were glad it had a happy ending.  We talked about special food at Easter and even tasted hot cross buns !

Yum yum !

Well Happy Easter everyone - see you in 2 weeks !
