Polar Bear, Polar Bear............

Hello Everyone,

This week we have been reading a story called Polar Bear, Polar Bear.  It is a rhyming book about all different types of animals.  We had fun making up our own versions of the story - these are some of our ideas:

Dylan, Dylan what do you hear?  I hear an octopus tickling in my ear.
Charlie, Charlie what do you hear?  I hear a puppy barking in my ear.
AJ, AJ what do you hear?  I hear an owl whistling in my ear.
Jazlyn, Jazlyn what do you hear?  I hear a ladybird flying in my ear.
Sidney, Sidney what do you hear?  I hear a duck quacking in my ear.
Thomas, Thomas what do you hear?  I hear a monkey shouting in my ear.

What good ideas we had !

We have also made lots of animals on the art table.

Jazlyn brought in another book by the same author - Brown Bear, Brown Bear and we like that one too.

In maths we have been trying to learn how to say one more and one less for numbers to 10.  It's been going quite well and we can nearly all do it really quickly now.  We have also been talking about size and comparing short and tall things.

In PE we are having great fun because we have started to learn how to use the apparatus !  We have to learn how to get all the benches and mats out safely and we have to put them away afterwards.  Look at these great photos of us at work.  Please remember PE is on a Friday and everyone needs a PE kit.  Thanks.

It was worth all our hard work though because it was great fun jumping off the PE tables !

Remember we go to the library to choose a new book every Thursday.  If you don't bring your book back you can't choose another one !

That's all for now - see you all next week

Snow at Last

Hello everyone,

At last we have had some snow !  In Grasshopper class we have been waiting for some snow all week.  We made the most of it and went out to play.  It was great fun trying to catch the snowflakes.

                                                                   Fun in the snow !

We have had a really busy week again - we have been thinking about floating and sinking all week and have carried out lots of experiments to find out what floats.  We have found out that things filled with air are very good at floating.  We also found that some apples float and some sink and we don't know why?  Can anyone help us with that?

Sorry AJ I meant to turn you around !

We have had a visit from the Dental Nurse and she told us all about healthy foods and how to look after our teeth properly.  She had a horrible set of teeth that hadn't been looked after and we all got to hold them - yuk !  She also brought a horse puppet with her who spat water at us - that was great fun.

We have had lots of duck stories all week and have been really busy making our own ducks - big ones, small ones, painted ones ...... ducks of every kind.  We are getting really good at cutting now and I think you will be able to tell when you look at all of our displays.  We have also done some writing about ducks and Mrs Young was amazed at how good we are at sounding out to spell now - keep up the good work everyone !

Oh dear Sienna - I've done it again !

We also made bridges of our own to try and rescue our ducks - good team work !

We have been learning to do subtraction this week (sometimes we call it 'taking away') and are learning to find out 'how many are left?'  Why not try some take away problems at home?  Also we have been counting backwards all week and have almost managed to get from 20 - 0 with no mistakes.

We have finished learning all the sounds of the alphabet in phonics and have started learning the names of the letters AS WELL AS the sounds.  Look out for our next Phonics drop in to explain how we teach that 2 letters can make 1 sound - like 'sh' or 'ch'.

Just another few snow pictures to end with - have a good weekend playing in the snow !

Down on the Farm

Hello everyone,

Well we have been back to school for a week now and it's like we have never been away.  Sadly we have had lots of children feeling a bit poorly this week so I don't think we will get Attendance Ted this week - oh dear.  Let's hope that next week everyone is feeling better.

We have been thinking about farms and farm animals this week.  We have thought about all the animals that live on a farm and had fun singing Old MacDonald.  We have made lots of great pictures of farm animals so look out for our new farm display in the corridor - we think you will be very impressed (especially with how well we have cut out our pictures - the children didn't have any adult help).

We have been learning to combine 2 groups in maths this week and are getting really good at it.  Some of us can even write number sentences using the symbols + and =.  We have also been counting forward and backwards from a given number.

In phonics we have learnt the letters v, w, x and j this week and we are also learning the names of the letters of the alphabet aswell as the sounds.  Mrs Ball has taught us all her special alphabet song and Lara has today taught us a different version.  Why not ask us to sing it to you at home?

We have also had a big change to our day since we have been back because now we go to Assembly every day.  We have been really good at sitting sensibly with all the older boys and girls and listening carefully.

In Good Work Assembly this week Thomas is getting a certificate for being more confident around the school.  Well done Thomas.

Well done everyone for remembering your PE kit today.  We were very impressed.

Sorry but there are no photos at the moment but as soon as Mrs Freeman has sorted out this technical problem we should be back to normal.

Must hop along now.
