Dinosaurs

Hello Everyone,

Well we've almost made it to the last week !  This week we have started learning about dinosaurs - or should I say Mrs Young, Mrs Ball and Miss Cannell have started learning about dinosaurs because Grasshopper Class appear to be experts on dinosaurs !

We did a mind map of everything we knew about dinosaurs on Wednesday and to be honest there isn't much that is left to learn !  Lennon knew more than some of the non fiction books !  We have made split pin dinosaurs and used the paint palettes to paint some great dinosaur pictures.  We have also read lots of dinosaur stories and next week we will have a go at writing our own.  All the school reading books have been collected in now for the Summer holidays - but remember to keep reading.  Gt Yarmouth library has a great selection of books - why not pop along?

Indianna and her split pin stegosaurus

Jordan worked carefully on his dinosaur

Oniaka painted her dinosaur picture carefully

Wow Ebony - has Mrs Ball helped you?

In maths we have been trying to recognise and write numbers to 30 ready for Year 1 and we have been thinking about size - length and  height.  We have done lots of measuring with the dinosaurs.

On Tuesday we had a fantastic trip to the Hippodrome Circus - the children really enjoyed watching all the acts.  Mrs Young thought some of the circus performers were crazy - especially the motorbike riders.  She couldn't watch them and Reece had to tell her when they had finished !  The clown Johnny was very funny too and we all loved the Water Spectacular at the end.

Waiting for the show to begin

This man was funny !

Watch out Mrs Balls !

We loved it when the Ringmaster got stranded !

On Thursday we had a fantastic Sports Day.  All the children were really good sports and really enjoyed racing against each other.  Even the mums, dads and toddlers joined in !  At the end of the morning we were all exhausted but it was really good fun.  Have a look at some of our photos.

Oniaka found a new way to do the hoop race !

Diggory is going home with Raphael this week because he is trying hard with his writing.  Well done Raphael - have fun!

This will be the last blog for this year.  Thank you for logging on each week.

Well,  three more days to go at school so see you next week!

The Circus

Hello everyone,

This week we have been learning about the circus.  We have found out about the Hippodrome in Gt Yarmouth where our circus takes place - we found out that it has been there for a very long time.  We also found out that they used to have animals like lions, tigers, monkeys and elephants in the circus but now our circus only has human performers.

We have been learning about how to find missing numbers in maths.  We had to solve a problem for the Ringmaster who had made a dreadful mess of the seating plan for his circus.  We had to use the clues to work out where the missing seats were.  We then had a go at doing this on our own circus ring.

We have made a giant big top from collage materials and it looks fantastic - it's all ready for our circus performance on Friday.  We also painted some fantastic clowns.

Jessica-May made her own big top

Rosanna and her fabulous clown

Taloola and her fantastic clown

On Wednesday we had a letter from the Ringmaster asking us to think up new acts for the circus show.  We went outside with Miss Cannell and practised lots of different acts - we used stilts, we juggled, we danced and we even did some balancing and acrobatics !  On Friday we put on a show for Mrs Johnson and Mrs Ball and they are going to ring the Ringmaster with some new ideas.

Jordan practises his balancing

Chase is good on the stilts

Reece is on the balance beam

Rosanna and Courtney practise their juggling

Oniaka does a bit of hoop spinning

I think Chloe and Abigail would make good tight rope walkers

Next Tuesday we are all going to the circus at the Hippodrome - it will be very exciting!  Also on Thursday we have sports day so it will be a busy week.

This week Diggory is going home with Rosanna because she has tried very hard with her writing all week.  Have fun!

That's all for now.

Pirates 2 !

Ahoy there!

We've had another jolly week learning about pirates and the sea.  This week we had another message in a bottle from Captain Jack Black.  Mrs Ball went to the beach to get it and guess what?  She came back with some real treasure for us!  She also came back with a pirate hat, armbands and a cornetto !! I don't think we'll send her down there any more - she has too much fun !

I think Mrs Ball makes a good pirate !

Mrs Young reads the message and ....

.......finds our treasure !

Anyway we had to share our treasure out equally between our pirate teddies.  We had to make sure they had exactly the same amount each or it wouldn't be fair.  We have been sharing different amounts all week and on Thursday we even shared a playdough cake !

Jessica-May shares her pirate coins

Chase shares his treasure

Jona shares her treasure

We have been thinking about writing stories this week and we decided we should write our own pirate story.  We took our time and thought of a really exciting beginning, middle and end for our story.  Lots of the children have then been writing their own exciting stories on the writing table - well done !

We have been thinking about floating and sinking too and we all made our own rafts - we then tested them out in the water.  Some of them floated better than others !

Taloola used her own ideas

All busy raft building

Oniaka made a fabulous raft !

Courtney and Chloe have a raft race

On Tuesday we had our Transition Day where we all found out what class we would be in in September in Year 1.  The new classes are:

Beetles - Mrs Young (am) and Mrs Goddard (pm)
Spiders - Mrs Balls
Ladybirds - Mrs Doggett (formerly Miss Brind!)
Caterpillars - Miss Smith

All the children are with some of their friends and we all had a lovely time getting to know each other and doing lots of fun activities.

We have also made some great pirate faces using paper plates.

Sophie and her pirate

Jamie-Lea and her pirate

On Friday we went to the Summer Extravaganza at the Brittannia Pier - it was very exciting with lots of singing and dancing and we even got to go on a coach.  Some of our children from Years 1 and 2 were in the show - how brave !

This week Diggory is going home with Courtney because she has made such great progress with her phonics.  Well done Courtney!

That's all for now.

Pirates

Ahoy there !

This week we have been learning all about pirates.  We have found out about life aboard a pirate ship from a non fiction book.  They were very cramped in their ships and often had to share their beds with rats!  We found out that there were also lady pirates!  The captain decided where to go to look for treasure and he shared out his 'booty' with his shipmates.  Pirates did a lot of fighting and often were quite unlucky and lost a leg or an arm in a fight !!

Reece and Eimantas loved reading our pirate books

On Tuesday we had a message in a bottle from Captain Black Jack - it said that his treasure had been stolen by Pirate Pete.  He asked us to help him to find the treasure.  Luckily several Grasshoppers had seen Pirate Pete with some treasure - he was out on Scroby Sands digging a big hole to bury it in.  So we wrote back to Captain Black Jack and told him where to find his treasure.  Miss Cannell is a really fast runner so we sent her down to the beach with our message in a bottle to throw it in the sea.  On Wednesday we sent Mrs Ball down to the beach to see if there was a reply.  She was gone ages - and when she came back we realised why.  She had taken a bucket and spade down there and started playing in the sand!  Anyway Mrs Ball found the next message and it was a treasure map.

This week in maths we have been learning about money.  We have been counting up 1p and 2p coins and playing shops.  We have also had a go at making different amounts using a range of coins.  We have also been practising counting in 2's and 5's.  Why not have a go at counting coins at home?

Chloe sorts her coins

Indianna and Jamie-Lee play shops

We have used lots of different construction kits to make our own pirate ships and we have painted some fantastic pirate pictures.  We even made our own treasure chests.

Eimantas built a lego pirate ship

Indianna will be taking Diggory home this weekend - she has done some really super writing.  Well done Indianna.

See you next week.

Space

Hello Everyone,

This week we are learning about space.  We have found out about all the different planets and about our planet -  Earth.  On Monday we did a mind map about what we knew about space and we also came up with a few questions.  We wanted to know how many stars there were in the sky and later in the week we found out that there are more than a billion stars!!

We have had a go at making rockets from lots of different construction kits and we have done lots of art work about space.  On Wednesday we used marbling inks to create space-like patterns and Miss Ball helped us to print our own space paper.  It was very messy and one of the ink bottles exploded all over poor Miss Ball !!  But all the mess was worth it because on Thursday we used our brilliant space paper to make our own planets.  Look out for them hanging up in our class!

Jessica-May and Courtney marbling

Daniel helps with a messy job!

Sophie helps to mix the marbling ink

Lexi making one of our planets

Abigail and Sophie cut out the circles

Alfie and Chloe help to string up the planets

Eimantas builds a space rocket

Jordan holds the rocket steady

We have also made aliens and listened to lots of space stories - we can't make our minds up about whether aliens really exist - who knows?  However, on Wednesday we got a letter from someone called Mr Alien?  He lived on Mars and he had sent us a fact sheet about his planet.  The envelope was full of red, sparkly dust!  He asked us to write a fact sheet about planet Earth so we set to work.  Mrs Young then sent the fact sheets back to Mr Alien.  Do you know the next day we had a reply from him with a present (still covered in red, sparkly dust) - it was a 'Gogglebit' from Mars.  How exciting!  May be aliens are real after all?

Mr Alien sent us a 'Gogglebit' from Mars!

Do you think Mr Alien might look like this?

Chase and Daniel writing about space

We have found out all about the first man on the moon - we watched a video clip of Neil Armstrong in his space craft 'The Eagle'.  We saw 'The Eagle' land on the moon and then watched as Neil Armstrong climbed out of his space craft and walked on the Moon.  We decided that he must have been very brave to go all that way (we read that if you could drive in a car to the moon it would take 170 years) !

Reece completes the space puzzles

Mackenzie and Jessica-May get ready for blast off

On Friday we had a special dance coach come into school to teach us how to do a Carnival dance.  We had a brilliant time and all tried really hard to learn the dance.  In the afternoon we had a special assembly where we all had to perform our dances for the rest of the school.

Rosanna was really good at dancing

Ebony followed the dance instructor's instructions

Alexus and Sophie are great dancers

Diggory is going to spend the weekend with Ebony as she tried so hard in the dance lesson today.  Have fun!

See you next week.
